Kim Phúc and her family were residents of the village of Trang Bang, South Vietnam. On June 8, 1972, South Vietnamese planes, in coordination with the American military, dropped a napalm bomb on Trang Bang, which had been attacked and occupied by North Vietnamese forces. Phúc joined a group of civilians and South Vietnamese soldiers who were fleeing from the Cao Dai Temple to the safety of South Vietnamese held positions. A South Vietnamese Air Force pilot mistook the group for enemy soldiers and diverted to attack. The bombing killed two of Phúc's cousins and two other villagers. Associated Press photographer Nick Út earned a Pulitzer Prize for his photograph of the aftermath. It also was chosen the World Press Photo of the Year for 1972. The image of Phúc running naked amidst the chaos became one of the most haunting images of the Vietnam War. In an interview many years later, she recalled she was yelling "Nong qua, nong qua" ("too hot, too hot") in the picture.

The Gary Dell Abate house photos were discussed at length today on Howard Stern. The crew teased Dell Abate for allowing Sound and Vision Magazine to take photos of his house. Gary Del Abate built a new house in Connecticut's Fairfield county last year. The Sound and Vision article discusses Gary's collection of antique radios (a collection Howard calls trite.)

The weird thing about this story... the Sound and Visionarticle and photos were published nearly a year ago, but all of a sudden, lots of people are searching for and discussing the photos of Gary's home.

Elisabeth confirmed the news that she and her husband, former NFL quarterback Tim Hasselbeck, are expecting their third child on Thursday’s “The View.”

“We are thankful for such great news and will begin planning our zone defense strategy immediately,” Elisabeth said.

While talking about the anonymous family in Southern California, who welcomed eight babies earlier this week during “The View’s” hot topics segment, Elisabeth admitted her own pregnancy came as a surprise.

“This time… we were shocked that we got pregnant,” she said. “But the first two times, it was difficult for me to get pregnant.”

“The View” panelist is already a proud mom to 15-month-old Taylor Thomas and 3-year-old Grace Elisabeth.

David Bergman used a Gigapan camera system to generate a panoramic image of President Obama’s inaugural address at the U.S. Capitol on January 20, 2009. The system was spun off from NASA technology that was used on the Mars Exploration Rovers Spirit and Opportunity.

According to the January 27, 2009 NASA media release “NASA-derived technology captures unique inaugural image,” “The resulting picture is a combination of 220 images with an overall size of 1,474 megapixels.”

The Gigapan system captures thousands of digital images, which are then transformed into a “uniform high-resolution picture of more than a billion pixels.”

Actually, the Gigapan image of the Obama Inaugural Address is composed of 59,783 by 24,658 pixels—or 1.474 megapixels.

NASA states that the Gigapan system is the end-result of a two-year collaborative effort between NASA Ames Research Center (Intelligent Systems Division’s Robotics Group), Google, and Carnegie Mellon University.

The Gigapan system consists of a robotic platform that is attached to a digital camera and computer software.
